What an exciting night!!! To start it off we had an important discussion and vote on how to put more emphasis on "time" back in our speeches. We approved by a vote (16 to 3) to put more focus on making sure speakers end their speeches no later than the buzzer (which is already 30 seconds over their allotted time). If the speaker continues on after the buzzer and shows no sign of closing we should start clapping. Time management is key to effective communication and we need to show more discipline so that we continually improve.

George Hast took control of the meeting as Toastmaster and gave some very creative introductions. Joe Bellil, our Topicsmaster, was also creative in his approach to table topics by giving each person a slip of paper with a question to answer. And Paul Goldstein gave us his very insightful critiques of each speaker as our General Evaluator.

"You The Jury Are On Trial"

Susan Bassick

A C&L #2 speech about Ms Jurisprudence. John gave us a 1st hand view into the Jury System. Most people look for excuses when they get a jury notice, there’s bias, and there’s sympathy. The Jury System isn’t perfect but it’s democracy and the clients will benefit from all of us participating. Great speech by John that taught us more about Ms Jurisprudence.

  • Jim Leary

"Procrastination Guide To Speech Preparation"

Judy Safern

A non manual speech on how Jim waited to the last minute to prepare his speech. A speech about speech making that we can all relate to. There was the 4 week notice, then the 3 week notice, then the 2 week, 1 week, 1 day, etc. There’s plenty of time until there’s no time. Jim gave a very creative impromptu speech that was very entertaining.

  • Phil Scott

"The Bookmark Paper"

Al Wheeler

A District Award Winning Humorous speech about Phil’s 1st day at school. Someone bent a bookmark and the class was going to get penalized if the culprit didn’t own up to it. Phil took the blame for bending the bookmark when he really didn’t do it. He didn’t want to stay after school because his mother told him it was bad. Very very funny!!!
