SPEAKERS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL SPEECH CONTEST

Speaker

Speech title

Summary

Filomena Didiano

The Future of Pessimism

Filomena spoke of how she was a pessimist and learned the attitude from her family.  She expressed her admiration for Dorothy Parker, who combined pessimism and wit.  She ended with an exhortation to be optimistic and live your life “bird by bird”.

Rob Koenig

A Voice of Freedom to express Vocal Variety

Rob used Martin Luther King as an example to encourage us to improve our speaking skills.  Your voice reflects your state of mind.  A good voice is natural and pleasant with dynamics, expressiveness, and the ability to be heard.

Triin Tammearu

Them

Triin noticed that sometimes we have an ambivalent attitude toward foreigners, but noted that many entertainers and corporate heads are foreigners.  She feels it is wrong to pardon illegal immigrants while legal immigrants have been working hard to live in this country.

Peter Hoag

Love Thy Neighbor

Pete gave several anecdotes regarding some of the unreasonable neighbors that he has had.  He stated that it is best to mend fences with your neighbors so you can live in peace.
