Speech Title

Summary

Mike Cormon

John Keeton

“Personal Robotic”

Mike talked about how robots do the 3D tasks (Dull, Dirty, Dangerous). Mike explained that service robots do exploration, experiments, and security. By 2015 one third of armed U.S. combat vehicles will be unmanned. On the lighter side, personal robots vacuum floors and provide various kinds of entertainment.

Jay Groccia

Roseann Waterhouse

 “A Case for Cash”

Jay talked about the relationship of cash and credit/debit card technology to privacy rights, pattern analysis technology, the post 911 era of Big Brother, and risk-averse socially irresponsible Insurance Companies.

Frank Lederer

Al Wheeler

C&L#4, “One Hike I Will Never Forget”

Frank related his experience of hiking through the woods, hills, and pastures outlying Worcester. On one occasion he noticed at the edge of some woods a cow, then a few cows, then the bull… After wildly fleeing across a boulder-strewn field and up an eroded gravel embankment, Frank came face to face with a ferocious large hound dog separated only by a six-foot barbed wire fence. Frank’s dismay worsened when he realized that the bull was successfully scaling the gravel embankment.
